"Same-day delivery" is a promise almost every cannabis delivery service in Massachusetts makes, and it means very different things depending on who's making it. Here's what actually determines how long you wait.Delivery is a logistics businessTwo things decide your delivery time, and neither has much to do with the menu: how far the product has to travel, and how many orders are ahead of yours. Most cannabis delivery in Greater Boston runs east-to-west. A service warehoused in Boston or Dorchester builds routes that start downtown and work outward. If you're in Framingham or Natick, you're at the end of that line — longer drive, later arrival, and a menu picked over by everyone upstream. Our warehouse is in Natick. Waltham, Newton, Natick and Framingham aren't the far edge of our service area; they're the middle of it. That's a structural difference, not a promise about trying harder.
What that means town by town
Rough drive times from our Natick facility, before traffic and queue:
- Natick — under 10 minutes
- Framingham — 5 to 15 minutes depending on where you are relative to Route 9
- Newton — 15 to 25 minutes via the Pike or Route 16
- Waltham — 15 to 25 minutes via Route 30 or 128
A Boston-based operator is looking at 30 to 45 minutes of drive time to reach the same addresses before it does anything else.
Realistic expectations
Typical delivery runs 30 minutes to 2 hours from order confirmation. Where you land depends on:
- Time of day. Evenings between 6pm and 9pm are the busiest stretch everywhere. An order at 2pm Wednesday beats the same order at 7pm.
- Day of week. Our data shows Tuesday through Friday are consistently heaviest, with Saturday and Sunday lighter. Weekend afternoons are often the fastest windows of the week.
- Traffic. Route 9, Route 128 and the Pike all matter, most between 4pm and 6:30pm.
- Whether everything's in stock. We hold our own inventory in our own warehouse. A courier service that has to collect your order from a partner dispensary first adds a whole leg to the trip.
How to get your order faster
- Order before 5pm — the pre-dinner window is the pinch point
- Order once, not twice — state rules permit only one delivery per address per calendar day, so a forgotten item means waiting until tomorrow
- Have your ID out — it gets verified at the door and the signature has to match
- Be reachable — if the agent can't reach you, the order goes back in the queue
- Check the minimum before checkout — ours is $50. Delivery is $4, and free on orders of $100 or more
What the state requires, regardless of who delivers
- Deliveries only between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. — towns can narrow that window but not widen it
- One delivery per address per calendar day
- Delivery must be to a private residence — no dorms, hotels, offices or federal public housing
- The person who ordered must receive it — no proxies, no leaving it at the door
- Agents wear body cameras during the handoff, and you're notified when you order
- Vehicles are unmarked, with no indication of what's inside
If a service offers to leave your order with a neighbor or meet you in a parking lot, it isn't operating legally.
